Marconi Wireless

Carl Nesensohn/Associated Press
Norman Corwin died this week at the age of 101.  He was a pioneer during the golden age of radio and used this new medium to reach the heights of expression and wonder and make the audience a part of the storytelling.  He reported on the front-lines of wars telling the real human stories that made us close to the action, and thus personally invested in the fight for freedom, the real thing, not some souped up idea.  Later, the corporate "Man" took away his freedoms and radio fell down the path of "vulgarity, venality and even cowardice that, in later years, was to blight the medium.”

To celebrate his fine mustache, please donate to the Clover Club Team for Mustaches for a Cure.

To celebrate Mr. Corwin, enjoy a Marconi Wireless, a classic autumn twist on the Manhattan made with apple brandy.

Yes, I read Playboy for the Articles

Well, for once this is true as Playboy has seen fit to publish their interaction with Hunter S. Thompson over the years.  There is even his hangover cure scribbled on a notepad from the Beverly Hills Hotel.

I myself have that strange longing for the days of Gonzo journalism when the world could not be explored of experienced by sitting on front of your computer.  And I know I have a habit of getting lost in old school escape like TV and cinema and even the occasional book, that dog-eared old thing.  But until I build my TARDIS, it is the only way I can time travel.  Maybe I'll go outside today and try to explore something happening right now.

But since this is all part of the publicity for Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary, I'll leave you with another fine Mustache and remind you to contribute money to the Mustache growing warriors at Clover Club.

Mustaches for a Cure

So Movember is right around the corner, and we have finally caught up on this side of the pond.  Do you part and help sponsor bartender brother Brad Ferran and these handsome lads from the Clover Club.  Brad has been know to grow a killer Mustache/porkchop combo in the past.  Its a favorite face of mine for sure.

On my Baseball and Boys Blog I have begun cataloging some of my favorite mustaches.  Keith Hernandez and his mustache get a full on film treatment, natch.

In honor of the fine faces of Clover Club, another shot of a most noble and sacred mustache.
