Ivy's Manhattan

My counterpart behind the stick at Fort Defiance, Ivy Mix is getting ready to drive home for the holidays in Vermont. So I am here on Evacuation Day to fill in and enjoy the Pig Roast. I am dressed as Margaret Corbin, heroine of the battle of Fort Washington, natch. Margaret Corbin took over her husband's cannon after he was killed by enemy guns and fired her cannon til it was the last one standing. She eventually fell to Hessian and British fire taking grapeshot to her jaw, breast and left arm. She was taken to Fort Lee as a POW and never recovered use of her left arm. She was the first female to receive a pension from the new US government. She preferred the company of men, became a heavy drinker and smoked a pipe. She is a true hero of mine.

Ivy prefers her Manhattan reverse style (like Julia Child) with orange and Carpano.  It is quite delicious!

Ivy's Manhattan
2oz Carpano
1 oz Rye
Dash of orange bitters
Orange twist

Stir over ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
